CHHD Graduate Certificate Projects
The Graduate Certificate in Culture, Health and Human Development is awarded following completion of all requirements, including presentation of a research project to faculty, students, and members of the community. Nine students have earned their CHHD Graduate Certificate; some have presented their projects at scientific meetings, with support from the CHHD.
2007 CHHD Certificate Recipients
- Caroline Mavridis, "Beyond the Edinburgh score: Experiences and activities of mothers at varied risk of postpartum depression." Dr. Mavridis currently holds a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Center for the Study of Culture, Health, and Human Development.
- Nivedita Renade,"Sleep and activity patterns of American and Dutch infants." Ms. Renade is completing her doctoral dissertation in the department of Human Development and Family Studies.
- Mary Sutherland,"Stability of frustration reactivity, cortisol levels and regulation behaviors of 2- and 6-month-old US infants during arm restraint." Ms. Sutherland is completing her doctoral dissertation in the department of Human Development and Family Studies.
2006 CHHD Certificate Recipients
- Marjolijn Blom (School of Family Studies): "Culturally regulated early experience and the establishment of diurnal rhythms in the Netherlands and the U.S."
Presented at the meeting of the International Society for the Study of Behavioral Development, Melbourne, Australia, July 2006. Dr. Blom is currently Research Scientist at the Ministry of Justice, the Netherlands.
- Marcia Hughes (School of Family Studies): "The impact of parental involvement and support on adolescent adjustment within the context of an intervention program"
Presented at the meeting of the International Society for the Study of Behavioral Development, Melbourne, Australia, July 2006. Dr. Hughes is currently Assistant Director of the Cetner for Social Research, University of Hartford.
2005 CHHD Certificate Recipients
- Xin Feng (School of Family Studies): "Responses of shy and non-shy Chinese children to an unfamiliar situation"
Presented at the meeting of the International Association for the Study of Behavioral Development, Melbourne, Australia, July 2006. Dr. Fen is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science, Ohio State University.
- Danijela Korom (School of Family Studies): "American, Dutch, and Spanish mothers’ ethnotheories about infant stimulation"
Presented at the meeting of the International Association for the Study of Behavioral Development, Ghent, Belgium, July, 2004. Dr. Korom-Djakovic is currently Senior Research Associate at Public/Private Ventures in Philidelphia.
- Beth Shoshana Russell (School of Family Studies): "Longitudinal links in maternal mood from three cultures: The Netherlands, Spain and the United States"
Presented at the meeting of the Society for Research in Child Development, Atlanta, Georgia, March 2005. Dr. Russell currently serves on the faclty of the Psychology Department at Worcester State University.
- John Shaver (Department of Anthropology): Mr. Shaver is completing his doctoral dissertation in the department of Anthropology.
